I think it was 33 at Newcastle - looked like half of them were children.

Affected by assembly
by Saltheart Foamfollower inhi - first some context - i have been pimo for about 20 years now and so have been to a lot of assemblies in that time.
last weekend i went to a circuit assembly and for the first time afterwards i was able to talk directly to someone who knows i'm out.
i realised then that although i didn't agree with any teachings (i sat picking holes in the arguements as usual) the experience of being there had affected me - the way of life started feeling normal as did the overall way of viewing the world.

Who says I haven't gone crazy! The first 2 years were the worst. The second two years were also the worst. After that I went into a bit of a decline.
Seriously, my advice for any PIMO is - find a real person (non-jw) who you can trust and talk to them. It is what keeps me going at the moment.
...and thanks for the many excellent posts on here, I'm going to spend some time re-reading them.

Hi - first some context - I have been PIMO for about 20 years now and so have been to a lot of assemblies in that time. I realised then that although I didn't agree with any teachings (I sat picking holes in the arguements as usual) the experience of being there had affected me - the way of life started feeling normal as did the overall way of viewing the world. I have been deprogrammed (thank you PJT if you ever read this) but I think I must have been affected like this every time I have attended an assembly. I've read about this from others, but it's the first time I've experienced it personally and it has made me more aware of how subtle the mind control tactics are that are used.
Hopefully posting this here will compl;ete my recovery.

jehovah's witnesses accused of silencing victims of child abuse.

The UK version of the special talk given by Stephen Papps had a quote from the Guardian (not this one obviously) and stated where it was from, so the Guardian has been "approved".

Why did you leave?
by Fred Franztone inwe all have many reasons for leaving, most are doctrinal, some are emotional.
it's a religion which obsesses over factual proofs (counterfactual though they are) of its veracity rather than faith, so it's inevitable that most who leave will do so for intellectual reasons.
which doctrine above all others forced you to reconsider your position?

I can be very specific about what started me off learning TTAT. Someone pointed out that in the All scripture is inspired book, exactly the same sources used to establish 537/539 are rubbished for saying Jerusalem fell in 587. It seemed so obviously stupid that I started investigating further and the whole structure collapsed in front of me.

Try this on a JW
by Saltheart Foamfollower inthis is not intended to expose wrong teachings etc, just to promote thinking and asking questions.. 1) ask if imperfection and death automatically follow sin.
jw will answer yes.. 2) ask if satan is imperfect then.. 3) sit back and watch them try to work out what the right answer should be.. sf.

Little can be stated to a JW that would be so thought provoking that they start to question their faith. That type of questioning comes from within ones own psyche
I entirely agree DisArmed, which is why the questions are framed to start them thinking about what they believe rather than attacking a belief. I don't think it is particularly profound - just another logical inconsistancy in the bible/JW beliefs. Personally I think it is all nonsense. JWs usually need a bit of a push to get started in really thinking and then their own psyche can take over. As I said earlier, doesn't work for many, but asking questions like this can help some start thinking and there is little risk to the questioner since it isn't attacking a belief. Anyone tried questions like this? I have tried this one and listened for about half an hour to several witnesses examine all sorts of inconsistancies.

When I have tried to question beliefs even subtly, JWs always go very defensive and I don't feel as if I've achieved anything. It usually needs to start with them questioning something or at least wondering about alternatives. My post was about using a line of questioning that they haven't already been given an opinion on. Hopefully it could start off an internal process which would lead to them genuinely questioning doctrine. Or not in most cases, but if it helps some, it's worth trying (and is low risk)
